UPENDI REHABILITATION

Our belief that individuals can change with the help of connecting with a power greater than ourselves, causes us to be persistent in seeking change, not only in ourselves but the lives of others.

We create environments where we actively encourage self-improvement and change in others. We help others to see and believe in a positive future for themselves.

We believe everyone deserves respect and should not be condemned by their previous actions – their history does not need to be their destiny. The Universe can intervene in supernatural ways which go against the physical circumstances we see.

TRAUMA REHABILITATION

A trauma patient is a person who has suffered a physical injury which may be minor, serious, life-threatening or potentially life-threatening.

Depending on your injury, rehabilitation may help you regain movement and strength, relearn skills or learn new ones.

It can also help them to recover mentally and emotionally from the trauma they have experienced.

Rehabilitation is defined as “a set of interventions designed to optimize functioning and reduce disability in individuals with health conditions in interaction with their environment”.

Rehabilitation helps a child, adult or older person to be as independent as possible in everyday activities and enables participation in education, work, recreation and meaningful life roles such as taking care of family. It does so by addressing underlying conditions (such as pain) and improving the way an individual functions in everyday life, supporting them to overcome difficulties with thinking, seeing, hearing, communicating, eating or moving around.

SPECIAL NEEDS REHABILITATION

Intellectual Disability (ID), is characterized by below-average intelligence or mental ability and a lack of skills necessary for day-to-day living. People with intellectual disabilities can learn new skills, but they learn them more slowly. There are varying degrees of intellectual disability, from mild to profound. Someone with intellectual disability has limitations in two areas. These areas are:

Intellectual functioning. Also known as IQ, this refers to a person’s ability to learn, reason, make decisions, and solve problems.

Adaptive behaviours. These are skills necessary for day-to-day life, such as being able to communicate effectively, interact with others, and take care of oneself.

Development and recognition of their potential abilities, in order to enable them to develop into full integrated members of the community, living as happy, productive and full lives as possible.

This should be the aim of  all services for the handicapped.

PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION

All patients suffering from severe and persistent mental illness require rehabilitation.

The goal of psychiatric rehabilitation is to help individuals to develop the emotional, social and intellectual skills needed to live, learn and work in the community with the least amount of professional support.

The overall philosophy of psychiatric rehabilitation comprises two intervention strategies.

The first strategy is individual-centered and aims at developing the patient's skills in interacting with a stressful environment.

The second strategy is ecological and directed towards developing environmental resources to reduce potential stressors.

ADDICTION REHABILITATION

Obtaining freedom from addiction to substances can be a long and difficult journey.

Support Groups can provide tremendous comfort during recovery strengthening your resolve and helping you stay the course in a sober life.

Finding success in recovery allows you to experience life in more fulfilling, healthier and substantially more rewarding ways.

Emotional and physical cravings for drugs or alcohol may continue for quite a while in recovery.

Temptations to use again due to specific triggers, like people, places, or activities, can derail your hard-earned sobriety. With a 12 Step Recovery Program, each step can help you strengthen your recovery and steer you away from temptation.

CRIMINAL REHABILITATION

Rehabilitation is the process of re-educating and retraining those who commit crime.

It generally involves psychological approaches which target the cognitive distortions associated with specific kinds of crime committed by particular offenders - but may also involve more general education such as literacy skills and work training.

The goal is to re-integrate offenders back into society by giving them a safe community to live in whilst learning to become self-sufficient without crime.

ELDERLY REHABILITAION

Rehabilitation for the elderly, is a specialized, multidisciplinary approach to restore function, enhance independence, and improve the quality of life for older adults with disabling conditions, injuries, or frailty. It involves a team of healthcare professionals to address medical, physical, psychological, and social needs, focusing on improving self-caremobilitybalance, and strength, and adapting the home environment to promote safety and autonomy.

Elders provide immense value to individuals, families, and society through their accumulated wisdom and experience, serving as mentors and guides. They offer valuable perspectives, can help maintain family bonds, pass down history and culture through stories, and provide a safe and nurturing environment for younger generations. For the elders themselves, staying engaged can lead to a more fulfilling life and improved mental and physical health through continued social connection and purpose.
